Hilton Head Island is on the southernmost tip of South
Carolina, about 15 miles north of Savannah, Georgia & 95 miles south of
Charleston, South Carolina.
What would I be doing at
Shore Beach Service?
-
Some of our employees are lifeguards only, but others play
the dual role of lifeguarding and operating a beach rental stand with umbrellas
& chairs and/or sailboats & beach cycles. All lifeguards are trained to
do both jobs and will likely do both jobs throughout the summer. We do not have
beach rental positions available to people who are not lifeguard certified.
What would my duties
include?
- Lifeguarding
designated sections of beach from your assigned highchair or rental location,
keeping focused, alert, and ready to provide assistance to those using the
beaches of Hilton Head Island.
- Setting up,
operating, and taking down assigned beach rental stand.
- Maintaining
neat and accurate paperwork that includes recording of safety related
statistics and accounting for all beach rentals.
- Attending
weekly training sessions that cover open water safety & rescue, first aid,
beach ecology, and other job related topics.
What would my schedule be
& what could I expect to earn?
- All
lifeguards sign a contract committing to a term of employment. Providing the
guards completes that term, he or she is eligible for a bonus based on days
worked and/or equipment rented.

Gross pay will vary with beach assignment and generally ranges between $70 and
$90 per day ($420 to $540 per week) for first year guards. A portion of this
(usually about 15%) is paid in a season-end bonus.
Where would I live during
employment?

Shore can arrange housing to those guards who do not have their own
housing. Shore's housing is generally a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment, with 2
bathrooms, a kitchen and living room. The apartments are shared with other
Shore employees, with 2 guards per bedroom. Rent ranges from $70 to $80 per
week with utilities included. Shore will not provide coed
housing.
- Many
employees arrange for housing and roommates through their own contacts.
What is there to do on Hilton
Head Island?
- Besides
spending time on our beautiful beaches, Hilton Head Island offers world-class
golf & tennis, sailing, jet skiing, water skiing, parasailing, deep sea
fishing, kayaking, dolphin cruises, factory outlet stores and much more. Hilton
Head Island also has hundreds of bars and restaurants to choose from. Shore
Beach Service lifeguards enjoy discounts at a number of business throughout the
island.
How do I qualify for
employment?
- Possess
current certifications in lifeguarding, CPR, First Aid and oxygen
administration.
- Demonstrate
ability to swim 500 meters in 10 minutes or less.
- Show evidence
of a recent physical examination.
- We prefer
experience in water safety, but it is not required.
- Backgrounds
in customer service and/or athletics are other attributes that Shore Beach
Service looks for in an applicant.
