Local hilton head Beach Ordinances
The Town of Hilton Head Island has several ordinances that pertain specifically to the beach. Some of the ordinances may seem obvious, but there are others that may not be so obvious.
The following is always allowed on the beach:
Having a safe, fun and relaxing day.

| The following are never allowed on the beach: |
- possession or consumption of alcohol
- glassware
- littering
- unauthorized vehicles
- unauthorized launch or anchoring of motorized watercraft*
- parasailing
- horses
- shark fishing
- physical harm, harassment, or disturbance (including removal) to beach fauna(sea turtles, sanddollars, birds, dunes, etc.)

- removal, alteration, or damage to dunes, sea oats, or other dune flora
- fires(except for cooking on liquid fuel stoves)
- fireworks
- disturbing the peace
- indecent exposure or nudity
- disorderly conduct
- commercial activity except by town franchise
- solicitation or distribution of handouts
- unauthorized wearing of lifeguard emblems

| *Motorized watercraft including boats and personal watercraft (jet skis, wave runners, etc.) are not permitted within 150 yards of the mean low water mark. This includes launching, anchoring, and operation of such watercraft. |
The following are restricted at these times:
- Stunt kites
10am-6pm April 1-September 30
- Sand Sailing 10am-6pm
April 1-September 30
- Sleeping
Midnight-6am

Animals are also restricted at certain times
(Read carefully, this one can be confusing)
- Are not permitted between 10am&5pm from Friday before Memorial Day through Labor Day
- Must be on a leash between 10am&5pm from April 1 through Thursday before Memorial Day & between 10am& 5pm from Tuesday after Labor Day through September 30 ·
- Must be on a leash or under voice control at all other times
* Persons in control of any animal on the beach are required to remove and dispose of the animal's excrement

The following are prohibited between sunrise to sunset from April 1 through September 30 in our five Designated Swimming Areas located at:
· Alder Lane
· Coligny Circle
· Driessen Beach
· Folly Field
· Islander's Beach Park
- Fishing or surf casting
- The use of a surf board or other similar article for surfing or surf riding
- Frisbees and/or other team sports involving a ball
- Recreational games with metal components such as metal horseshoes

If you have any trouble remembering the ordinances, signs are posted near most beach accesses.
